Celebrating 22 Years of Coaching Experience!

Rob Ryerson just finished his tenth season at Mount St. Mary’s University, guiding the Mount to the NEC Tournament Championship Game for the third time in program history and fifth NEC postseason appearance to garner NEC Coach of the Year honors.

While leading The Mount, Ryerson has coached one NEC Rookie of the Year, four All-NEC first-team selections, eight All-NEC second-team selections, three NEC Players of the Week and eight NEC Rookies of the Week in his nine seasons. In addition, two of his players played in the United Soccer League Second Division.

Ryerson’s successful career in soccer began while playing collegiately at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  He was a two time All-America selection at Nevada-Las Vegas in 1984 and 1985. He still holds the UNLV career scoring record with 67 goals and 25 assists, and was named to the school's Hall of Fame in 1998 along with having his jersey #10 retired following his senior year.

Ryerson played professionally outdoors for the Maryland Bays from 1988-91 and the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1992.  He was a key member of the National Championship team winning the American Professional Soccer League title in 1990.  Professionally indoors, he played for the Baltimore Blast and Washington Warthogs as well as squads in San Diego and Fort Wayne, Ind., prior to becoming an assistant coach for the Warthogs in 1996.

Over five years of play with the U.S. National Team, his most memorable highlight was scoring the game-winning goal in a 1-0 friendly contest against Costa Rica in San Antonio, Texas, (6-14-88). Ryerson participated in the Heroes Cup in July 2003, a game that featured former national team players from the United States playing against a squad of former national team players from Mexico.

Ryerson began his coaching career as an assistant at UMBC in 1991 and then returned to UNLV for two years as an assistant in 1993 and 1994. He then came back to his native Maryland to spend 1995 and 1996 as Head Coach at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, before starting his Professional Indoor coaching career as a volunteer Assistant Coach with the Washington Warthogs of the Continental Indoor Soccer League in 1996. He then spent 1997 and 1998 as Head Coach of the Baton Rouge Bombers of the Eastern Indoor Professional Soccer League, where he earned 1997 EISL Coach of the Year honors.

Ryerson has obtained the highest level of coaching licenses offered here in the United States.  He obtained his USSF National “A” License in 1997, his USSF National “Youth” License in 2000 and his NSCAA National “Premier” License in 2001.  His involvement with youth soccer is extensive as he hosts one of the top residential soccer camps in the region.  He also is an instructor for the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association, conducting coaching courses to youth soccer coaches within the State of Maryland.

Rob was recently inducted into the “Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame” in 2006.

Hi Coach Ryerson,Thanks for another awesome camp and a GREAT time talking Soccer. I picked up a lot. It took a lot of presure off as I make the transition to College Soccer. I was sure I was missing someything. You and Coach Mac certainly steered me in the right direction and helped me focus my train of thought. Who needs to study Barry Gorman when I have Rob Ryerson and Kevin McMullan in my corner. Thanks again for all of your help, Clyde
